The Natural Park of Las Marismas in Isla Cristina was declared so in 1989. This was a clear way to protect the marshlands, the birds and it´s beautiful flora.

The Marismas (marshlands) of Isla Cristina are home to an important number of flora and fauna species. The singularity of this area and different levels of salt have given room for a variety of different plants, that have given the fauna a great diversity.

Flamingos, storks, spatulas, chameleons...they all form part of this great variety. In this location we find a Center for interpretation that you can visit to learn more about the area. In the Center for Interpretation we´ll find teh Molino de Mareas, from here you´ll get answers to whatever questions you may have. This tide windmill was built in mid 18th century and worked with the changing low and high tides.

This park is surrounded by pinetrees and sand dunes, and you can only access this through Isla Cristina through Ayamonte.
